A Light Walk

Role: Concept & Production (for Studio Common)
Install: Studio Common
Project Management: Studio Common
Graphic artwork: Jacob L'Huillier Lunt
What: Commissioned artwork for the City of Port Phillip Council at St Kilda foreshore. We (Studio Common) were approached by City of Port Phillip Council to create a new public space artwork along the iconic St Kilda foreshore, that recontextualised the space at night through use of lights. We approached the project with simplicity as priority, installing 100 vertical solar powered stakes in a grid formation. The soft lights woke at dusk and ran until sunrise. Each light was marked with an individual artwork, 100 puzzle pieces that together made a unique artwork by collaborator Jacob L'Huillier Lunt. Playing with the ephemeral nature of the work, the public was encouraged to take a light home with them in the closing days, allowing the individual puzzle artworks to live a second life in gardens across the city.
